Kicking off the Harris-Walz campaign in South Georgia

By

Sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words, and a good editorial cartoon is worth a couple of zillion.

Commercial artist extraordinaire Trevor Irvin took a couple of suggestions I made in my last couple of TIGC posts and turned them into an editorial cartoon that would have made the late Jack Davis proud.

Suggestion #1 was that the Harris-Walz campaign send VP nominee Tim Walz (aka Coach) on a bus tour through South Georgia in the heart of Georgia’s high school football season. Suggestion #2 was that they offer former Georgia GOP lieutenant governor Geoff Duncan a front-row seat on the bus.

Duncan, of course, earned thunderous applause at the Democratic Party’s national convention in Chicago last week when he endorsed Kamala Harris and told fellow Republicans watching from home: “If you vote for Kamala Harris, you’re not a Democrat, you’re a patriot.”

A few days after my first column suggesting the “Coach Walz” tour started running in about 30 newspapers around the state, the Harris-Walz campaign went me one better and announced not only that Walz would do such a tour, but that Harris would be on it as well.

As of this writing, the Harris-Walz campaign hasn’t put out any information on the route but has said it will end with a rally Thursday in Savannah.

I should emphasize that I have no clue whether my columns were even seen by anybody in the Harris-Walz campaign, let alone whether they played a role in their discussions. In my first column, I even said it didn’t take much imagination to envision such a road trip. All that said, I’d be an idiot not to take advantage of the coincidence and have a little fun with it. So far, however, nobody has called to offer me a seat on the bus.
